• The Colorado Safeway ad for 6/13-19 has the following combinable offers: Buy 2 12 pks. of Pepsi products, get 2 12 pks. free, plus get a case of Refresh water free. The 12 pks. are $4.99, so for $9.98 you get 4 12 pks. and a case of water. You can get this offer twice on the same receipt.
Then the 2nd offer is purchase 10 Pepsi, Lays or Tostito products, get a coupon immediately redeemable for a $25 gift card. Take the 1st offer x 2, adding 2 bags of Tostitoes and you have 10 products so you get the $25 gift card. Net effect is you've spent $25, but get $25 so you can say 8 12 pks, 2 cases of water and 2 bags of chips were free or your next $25 of groceries (if you chose the $25 Safeway gift card as there are many options on gc)!
Limit of one $25 card per Safeway card, but nothing to stop you from having numerous Safeway cards!^:p

  • In Washington, DC (Safeway Eastern Division), we have exactly the same two offers. As stated above, you are not limited to a Safeway gift card -- it's ANY gift card from the gift card mall, including a Visa or American Express gift card! :)

I went to my local Herndon Safeway this morning
(the one on Elden Street, near Herndon Parkway)

    and things got complicated

i bought 8 12 packs of pepsi products and 2 bags of tostitos

    at checkout
i got credited for 4 of the 8 12 packs of pepsi and the 2 cases of water

i asked about my $25 gift card
the clerk said it wasnt eligible because that would need to be a separate transaction
i told him to check again and ask the manager
so after a 5 minute conversation between those 2
i get a $25 credit applied to my bill

so my total is $2 and change, so i'm happy

the clerk hands me the receipt and the coupon that has been printed and i walk out.

as i'm loading stuff into my car
I look at the coupon, and the coupon says, redeem at any safeway for a $25 gift card, exp 6/30/07

so i guess the clerk was wrong after all

  • I loaded up my cart with the stuff...no voucher printed, so the cashier went to customer service and they said I couldn't combine the two deals, so I asked to see the store manager and he also stone-walled me and said I could not get both deals...very rude about it! So I left without buying a single item

  • I guess that might be good if you like baseball... I'd much rather have the cash. Darn.

    My thoughts exactly.

  • Thanks OP. Got 2 sets yesterday. Paid for the second set with the Safeway GC from the first set and I had ~$2 left, so I guess my total was more like $23.

As for using 2 to get an AA GC, my coupon rang up as a $25 off coupon I think, so you could probably use one to get a $50 gc for $25, or possibly use 2 for one transaction.

If I had anywhereto store this much soda, I'd try it a few more times.

    This is dejavu!

Pretty much the same thing happened to me at the same store!!

  • Gack, SoCal gets this offer but the Bay Area doesn't? Is baseball that important up here? Yeesh.

  • Darn... this doesn't seem to be available here in the Bay Area. There's a BOGO for 18-packs of cans plus a free case of Refresh, but not the 12-packs and couldn't find the gift card offer anywhere. Durn it.

In the Bay Area, instead of $25, the offer is 2 baseball tickets.

  • Thanks, just got back and worked wonderfully...err, well it worked.

My voucher didnt automatically print, but after going to customer service, I got my $25 gift card. =D

And... they were out of Refreshe water, so I got Aquafina instead.

  • Similar offer here in Austin at Randall's stores.

Don't see the buy 2 get 2 offer on Pepsi,

but just buy 10 bags of Tostitos or Lays chips at $2.50,
    get $25 card....
The Pepsi buy 2 get 2 free + 1 free Refreshe water is good in Austin. (It's on the weekly ad, 1st page.) The buy-2-get-2-free red tags are all over the Pepsi aile. If you only want the $25 GC, go ahead and buy 8 Pepsi ($5.49X4), 2 chips ($5), you will also get two 24-pack Refreshe water on the side for free.

If you want to combine $25 GC with Summer Savers (extra $10 coupon for every $30 spent), you may either:
    1. Spend $30: buy 12 Tostitos/Lays chips. Or,
    2. Spend $30.38: buy 10 Tostotos/Lays chips ($25) + 2 Safeway Salsa-24oz ($2.69X2)

Since Tostitos/Lays and 24-oz Safeway Salsa are participating items in Summer Savers, you will get two catalina coupons ($25 GC & $10 Summer Savers) and end up making some profits. :) Tomorrow is the last day though.

  • You can only do the offer once per Safeway (disc. card), but can choose a $25 Safeway gift card as your reward if you choose. As stated you can have a disc. card for various members of your household, (real or imaginary), and do it just once per card.

  • There is a place on the website to enter your zip code and see in store offers for your area.Yes, I know. That's how I discovered it is not available in the Bay Area.

  • Very easy, bought 4 12 packs of lipton brisk ice tea and 6 kinds of chips, got one free case of refresh water and the $25 coupon printed out automatically. They had so many gift cards so I did not know which one to get. I have until 7/3/07 to redeem it. I will add another $25 dollar cash to purchase a Southwest airlines gift cardto use on an upcoming trip. Thanks for the op.

  • Just did it today... 8 cases of Pepsi products, 2 cases of Safeway water, 1 case of Aquafina, and 1 bag of Tostitos, which was a little over $30 thanks to the CA CRV. But I got my $25 GC to Staples (I really wish we could combine the two for a $50 AA GC).

Of course, you can keep buying 10 bags of chips, get a $25 GC, use that to buy 10 more bags of chips, lather, rinse, and repeat.

  • Bay Area = Safeway monopoly on the grocery biz. (Well, sort of. In San Francisco, it REALLY dominates the market, for example.)Uhh... maybe in the city, but certainly not even close in the East Bay, where Albertson's dominates by far. Or what used to be Albertson's, and is now in flux but will likely be SaveMart or whatever they decide to call it. Point being that Safeway is not dominant outside the City... yet. :)

  • Pretty sure the OP didn't meaning Safeway Gift Card. It's the Safeway Reward Card that is needed and the offer is only one per. My wife and I each have a separate reward card and we've done it twice now. Already got a 25.00 Cracker Barrel and Cheesecake Factory card for 'free' !!!!

    This is an awesome deal.

Oh, OK. I guess I was overgeneralizing. :o (I have nothing in particular against Safeway -- there's a 24-hour one just a block from my house and it's very handy -- but more competition here would be good.)

  • Only on FT, will you learn such things... thanks OP!

I will try it today, at my local Safeway here in Colorado.
So, even if you get the 2 packs free of the soda, it counts toward the 10 pepsi products?

Yes, because they ring them both up and then deduct the price of the free one.

  • In the Bay Area, instead of $25, the offer is 2 baseball tickets.

I haven't seen that. Today, in Scotts Valley (Santa Cruz County), I did get a $40 Safeway Card for subscribing to the San Jose Mercury News. Cancel after 2 months and get a refund.

  • Also available at Chicago-based Dominick's! This is great, as I am also enrolled in United's Grocery Miles Program, getting me closer to a getting miles from them, and also use the Citi Driver's Edge Card, which gets me 6% cash back at supermarkets. Now just need to sign up for for some more "Fresh Values" cards :D

  • I got the deal at the Georgetown Safeway. I got the voucher then used it to buy a $25 Safeway gift card (yes they had no problem ringing it up) and I used it to pay for the rest of the stuff i bought.

  • Only on FT, will you learn such things...
    Actually, not true.

A lot of the "deals" posted here on FT are found on FatWallet and similar sites: www.fatwallet.com

In fact, those "other" sites are really, in general, a much better source for these non-travel, non-miles, non-points-related "deals." @:-)

  • In the Bay Area, instead of $25, the offer is 2 baseball tickets.I guess that might be good if you like baseball... I'd much rather have the cash. Darn.

  • Good deal... although NO Safeways in New Jersey :(

Could always use the extra PEPSI! :)

  • Look at T&C of the offer, no Safeway GC allowed....

  • In Washington, DC (Safeway Eastern Division), we have exactly the same two offers. As stated above, you are not limited to a Safeway gift card -- it's ANY gift card from the gift card mall, including a Visa or American Express gift card! :)
AFAIK, any Safeway gift card can be used to purchase groceries and/or other retailers' gift cards, anyhow.

  • Bay Area = Safeway monopoly on the grocery biz. (Well, sort of. In San Francisco, it REALLY dominates the market, for example.)

So "since they're neighbors," they don't need to offer $25 bonuses, I guess. @:-)

  • Works great. Just Picked up 8 Pepsi's and 2 chips for $25.66 and recieved a $25 gift card coupon at checkout.
