  • I wouldn't call it a Potemkin Village. The image map symbolizes the grassroots culture of the Party.

  • Great find, wow I never thought that I would feel that nostalgic about the Canadian web site. Boy I wish they were around still. The good old days of competition and quality service.

You know it's funny watching the Ansett relaunch in Oz with the resulting competition in that marketplace. Oh I wish that we still had Oneworld and still had Canadian. I am sick of AC and their mistakes. I raelly feel for the majority of the combined employees who are just strapped in for a ride from hell.

Oh well, I guess we have to make the best of it and move on to new programs. Just a shame that I have been forced by others to abandon a true symbol of Canada and my pride in what is/was our national carrier.

  • Great site. . . brings back alot of dot com memories!

  • I clicked on the old CP Plus page, on the check your points section...trying to enter my old CP plus #...I wish I could still do that, feel very nostalgic about it.

    Thanks for the link.

    P.S. What's Potemkin village?

  • Very neat find!

  • Oh wow this is fantastic!

  • Yeah, all façade and no substance! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

  • Thanks for the memories...

  • This site is amazing... like a graveyard for all websites.

Now you see where dot.com's go after their demise.

  • Al,

You don't find it in the least ironic that the home page shows a Potemkin Village?

I didn't think such a thing existed in AB http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I used to have a lot of respect for Deb Grey. But it's all irrelevant anyway, since there's no future in the federal PC party...

You should click on the "Liberal Waste Report" link. I wish we had kept it going.

A Potemkin village refers to a village that exists only for show and there is nothing behind the village. Much like a hollywood set. The terms arose in Russia, where a district governor would have the peasants build elaborate building facades to impress visiting dignataries but there would be nothing behind the facades, when closely examined.

  • Good find Dorian...

  • Fantastic! Just what I needed for my latest contract!!! Thanks!!!!!

  • I actually I liked the original 1988 brochure, signed by Grey herself when I met her in Ottawa. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

  • I suppose a modern day example would be Pyongyang, North Korea.
