• My vet said it is okay to give my dog over the counter Benadryl when she is coughing, sneezing and has congestion. I told my husband this and she has been having these symptoms for a couple of days now and he gave her some Benadryl...only problem is, he gave her Benadryl Allergy & Sinus. Is there anyone out there that knows if this will be harmful to her? Because I know my vet meant for us to just give her the plain Benadryl. I wasn't home and I know he only gave her half a pill, but I'm still worried about her. Thank you in advance!

  • did you ask your husband if it stop what she had?i don't think that much will hurt her just give her some extra food to help her stomach with it.

  • u r only supposed to give original Benadryl with ingredients diphenhydramine hydrochloride, ammonium chloride, sodium citrate. and half child's dosage. check ingredient anything with alcohol or antihistamine is bad.

  • I have given my dog the exact same medicine. He is fine. He had an allergic reaction to flea bites, and the vet told me it was ok. There were no side effects.

My dogs a brittany and weighs 44 pounds.

  • Take the dog to the vet. Acetaminophen is toxic to dogs.

  • A big question is probably how big is your dog and how much did she consume (dosage)

Benadryl Allergy & Sinus: Diphenhydramine, Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride

    Benadryl is just Diphenhydramine

    Pseudoephedrine
Pseudoephedrine is a popular decongestant in many cold and sinus products, and acts like a stimulant if accidentally ingested by pets. In cats and dogs, it causes elevated heart rates, blood pressure and body temperature as well as seizures.

  • I'm not a vet, but if your vet told you that Benadryl is ok I don't imagine that the Allergy and Sinus version is much different. To know for sure, I'd check the Active Ingredients of both formulations on WebMd or some website like that to see if there's any real difference in the medications.
