i called up today to ask if the gas place had any female engineers and they said no, ever since i found out the answer was no, predictable really, i feel really sick, my tum is in knots etc. i dont know whether to go thru with the appointment tomorrow or not. yesterday afternoon/evening the hot water worked fine so im thinking even if they did come over they may not find the fault, if the valve/thermistor, etc only acts up randomly. i dont know what to do if i have to cancel i have to do it today as they are over in the morning tomorrow, if i dont cancel i have to ensure the kitchen is tidy and make excuses for them not to enter the rest of my home, i figured i could just say i was burgled recently maybe so its messy and i dont want anyone in the rest of the place other than where the boiler is. im driving myself crazy about this :/ what to do?

hell i dont know whether to put this in mental health or maintenance and repairs :/ lol

  • Don't worry about restricting the access of any person to any part of your property. I don't let people past my door step unless I know and trust them, british gas engineers all wear ID cards so make a note of the persons name before letting them in. They should ring shortly before they attend your property to let you know they are coming.
Try not to get worked up about it, phone british gas again and explain fully your situation they should be able to deal with it in a sympathetic manner that makes life easier for you. Tell them things like you would prefer it if you received a call from the engineer shortly before he arrives and that you want him to use the back door. They will understand, there are lots of people who feel as you do

  • You will have to get in a private person from the yellow pages.

  • Right!!! I'm coming over to sort the facking thing out for you!!! Is boyf staying? If so then keep the appointment. You can always stay in the background while he supervises the workmen. don't fret about your house, they've seen it all and a lot worse before. At least you've got your own home eh? What you do in it is nobody's concern but yours. If boyf not staying then if you feel unable to cope with workmen round, cancel now and rearrange next time boyf can be present.
Why can't you live up the road from me? I would sort it for you. I could be your PA

  • first of all CALM DOWN.
if you are worried about it being a male engineer get someone to come over and sit with you tomorow.
If you are worried about the house being a mess, clean it up a bit. They will only need to go into the plac where the bolier is and maybe check the radiators and the taps.
I am sure they have seen worse.
Dont panic about things so much, get someone to sit with you tommorow.

  • It's terrible to be burgled, and I understand that you feel insecure in your home which must be a terrible feeling, but you must try to stay calm and face your fear so that you can move on.
Put your valuables away, and try to get a friend or neighbour to stay with you, I'm sure they would understand:)

  • Its natural to feel a bit nervous about strangers coming to your home, but try to get a friend or neighbour to come in whilst he is there and then he will never need to be left alone, even if your back is turned. Believe me, however messy your home is, they WILL have seen worse! I used to have a job where I went out to do home visits sometimes and al I can say is that it sure makes you feel better about your own home when you see other people's! Its your home, you live in it how you want to; no need to make excuses to anyone.
